Join Our Board!
We’re expanding our Board and accepting applications for new Board members!
As a Board member, you’ll help us shape the mission, vision, and programs of The Body Political. If you’re passionate about amplifying untold stories about the body and creating spaces for stories and resistance, then we’d love to hear from you.
Please read all of the information below before proceeding with the application.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Our organization’s intention is to showcase a wide diversity of experiences related to the body and within this we strive to have a leadership structure that also reflects diversity. We are committed to having a POC-centered Board and require that 60% of our Board members are POC.
Folks of underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply, including people of color, indigenous people, gender non-conforming and trans folks, people with disabilities, and people over the age of 40.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A BOARD MEMBER
Board members are responsible for organizational governance, program oversight, and long term planning for The Body Political. Board members are expected to participate in discussions regarding governance issues and vote in the best interest of the organization.
We ask that you help us address challenges through a creative, collaborative, and just framework.
Board members are also responsible for special projects or roles in the organization based on their expertise. You may be working alone on a project or with other Board members.
We hold Board meetings four times a year virtually, via Zoom. Board members are expected to attend at least three meetings a year. Board members are asked to work a minimum of 50 hours a year, outside of Board Meetings. This is about four hours a month or one hour a week.
Board members are required to commit 2 years to the organization.
Board members are expected to contribute or raise at least $250 annually for the organization through activities including personal donations, fundraising, sponsorships, grant writing, or event organization. If the financial commitment is an obstacle for you, we can discuss other non-monetary options.
You can read a full list of our Board member requirements here.
You can apply to become a Board member by clicking here or using the button below. You’ll be directed to an application form, which consists of four questions.
